The world’s lightest constant f/4 zoom lens is here – at least according to Sony. The company announced the upcoming FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G lens.

It’s a wide angle power zoom lens that results in evolved image quality, high performance autofocus and superior operability with a constant F4 aperture. The lens offers an innovative power zoom function and independent aperture control ring for more creative control.

This is also the first time a Sony Alpha lens included four XD linear motors for the power zoom and two XD linear motors for the focus. This combination should result in less camera shake and extra movements often experienced with traditional zoom rings.

The FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G is the world’s lightest wide-angle power zoom lens, weighing in at just 12 ounces. It is 3.17 inches x 3.47 inches. This size means the lens is a great companion when users need quality power zoom with unprecedented mobility and handling.

In a world where content creators need equipment that captures high quality images for both still photography and video, Sony’s new lens may offer a solution. It is capable of going from video production to landscape photography to vlogging.

“The needs of our community are our top priority. As the content creation landscape continues to evolve and the worlds of still imaging and video continue to merge, we are constantly developing new products to meet this growing demand for hybrid content creators.”

Yang Cheng, Vice President, Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics Inc.
